Homeowners in South Chicago Township Have Until February 4th to Appeal Their Property Assessments
South Chicago Township homeowners have until February 4th to appeal their property’s assessed value with the Cook County Board of Review. Filing an appeal is a free service that can help reduce future property tax bills. For Tax Year 2023, approximately 62% of homeowners who appealed directly to the Board of Review received a reduction in their assessed property value. In total, residential homeowners secured about $3.3 million in property value reductions that year. "With single-family home values rising in the 2024 reassessment compared to 2021, my office is committed to supporting taxpayers who are struggling with the resulting tax burden," said Cook County Board of Review Commissioner George Cardenas. "If you have questions about the appeal process, exemptions, or the Cook County property tax system, we are here to help." State Senator Javier Lorena Cervantes (D-Chicago) emphasized the impact of rising property taxes: "When I speak with residents in my district, one of their biggest concerns is the fear of being priced out due to high property taxes. I’m proud to work with the Cook County Board of Review to help homeowners understand their appeal rights and find potential financial relief." Homeowners can file an appeal, learn more about the process, and get assistance by visiting cookcountyboardofreview.com or calling (312) 603-5542 before the February 4th deadline.
